The story of the Rouse's Roost Guest House began in
1890 when this unique shotgun house was built on West Second Street. The term
"Shotgun House" is believed to have originated in West Africa from the word "togan"
which means meeting place. Locally, however, the term is for a type in which a
shotgun can be fired from the front door and all the bullets will pass through
the house and exit the backdoor with out striking any objects!
Whichever
meaning you prefer, you will love the tastefully decorated guestrooms.
Vintage and antiques furnishings are carefully placed in each room to create a
warm and cozy setting. Top off a busy day of visiting Madison by spending a
quiet evening swinging on the back porch or in main room gathered by a
fireplace. Roger & June Rouse will warmly welcome you to the Guest House. they
provide many amenites including Continental Breadfast, Fireplace, Cable TV,
Fireplace, back Proch with swings and rocking chairs. Rouse's Roost Compfortable
